Willington Hall is lucky enough to have an equestrian centre within the garden, and not just any equestrian centre – but one of the best.
With our partners ‘Equestrian Escapes’ we are happy to facilitate riding breaks and holidays. They will be happy to arrange lessons for you with the riding school, after discussing in detail your individual requirements. Equestrian Escapes are experienced in the organisation of breaks, and will be able to pitch a riding experience to suit you. Willington Hall Riding Centre offers a range of riding experiences from individual or group lessons, to hacks out through the Cheshire countryside, along the sandstone trail and into Delamere forest; an equestrian break can be tailored to your riding ability.
For those wanting the full Horsey experience, why not spend some time at the Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre. Where you can experience these delightful animals as well as many other animals and rare breeds in their countryside park.
The Sandstone trail is one of the most popular middle distance walks in the North of the UK, following the sandstone ridge that runs from top to bottom of the county.
Willington Hall is en route at one of the junctions of the trail. The trail enjoys a high position, from where you can see all of the Western side of Cheshire to the Welsh mountains, as well as seeing the route of the trail stretching out south towards Shropshire.
If the whole trail is not for you then there are a number of shorter circular walks around.
alternatively a short drive away is Delamere Forest with a number of routes for walking and cycling, including a high wire activity center.
We can organise picnics for you to take from the hotel, or why not pop in for a bar snack on the terrace?
If you are looking to do the whole trail and would like to make it easier, stopping off along the way, Byways Breaks can organise the route as well as your luggage collected and taken to your next stop
Use Willington Hall as a staging post for a forray into the Cheshire countryside to discover the fantastic wildlife right on our doorstep.
Willington Hall prides itself in the promotion of art and local artists. From regular exhibitions and lectures, to our permanent exhibition space in the ‘Pink Room’.
We have the Animal eARTh Exhibition in the Hamilton suite. It is always a pleasure to welcome the artists back to Willington. With several guest artists ranging from fine pencil to oil painting, as well as sculpture for a little variety! See our news page for more information about the next exhibition.
Entrance to the exhibition is completely free and you are welcome to come and have a look around and have a chat with the artist.
Our current artist in residence in the Pink room is Keith Wood with his evoking of the 1920’s, his slightly cheeky cartoonish paintings remind you of eeves and Wooster. A perfect addition to the history of Willington Hall.
We also have another local artist, featured in the garden, with her fantastic wire horses galloping across the park, we think that Liz’s sculptures are a perfect for this horsey area!
